Blog: Oil Rich (December 27, 2015)

The May 2004 issue of Vogue contained an article titled "Oil Rich" by Ning Chao. I recently found this after moving. I see why I saved the magazine all these years. The short article treated the concept of applying oil to the skin for beauty purposes very seriously. For which I was, and am, grateful. It acknowledged that oils, by which is meant vegetable oils, "have been a chief ingredient in complexion-nourishing cosmetics for centuries." Historically oils have been used to heal and hydrate skin. Oil is acknowledged to liquefy sebum and help it drain from the pores so it can be washed away. Oil does not clog pores. Applying vegetable oil to the skin helps keep it from drying out; it is the drying out that causes skin to secrete more sebum.

If you have read my book, you will know that I am a big fan of using vegetable oils cosmetically—for both cleansing and nourishing. I've been doing this since the age of 45, with satisfying results. Be sure to try it yourself!
